China calls on BRICS to fight against trade favoritism

The BRICS member states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) should join hands to fight against trade favoritism, Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan said.

"The BRICS countries must maintain the multilateral trading system, address all forms of trade favoritism, promote an open global economy and protect the common interests of developing countries and emerging markets, "Zhong said at an opening of a meeting of the trade and economic ministers of the BRICS countries.

He stressed that the members of the group should "strengthen economic and trade cooperation in the face of new challenges and improve the mechanisms of interaction".

The BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting is taking place in Shanghai on August 1-2.

The meeting is scheduled to focus on issues of electronic commerce, investment facilitation and trade in services.

This year China holds the rotating presidency of the BRICS.
