Colombia, Duke, Petro, June 17, candidates, next president, president

The Colombians are summoned on June 17 to the polls to elect their next president in the second round.

The aforementioned ballot will be between Iván Duque and Gustavo Petro, who won 39.14% and 25.08% of the votes in their favor respectively in the first round held on May 27.

It is the first time that Colombia must elect its president from two antagonistic candidates: Duque is from a radical right-wing party and Petro belongs to a leftist formation.

Another highlight is that the winner of the ballot will have to handle key issues such as the fate of the peace agreement between the ex-guerrilla Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Colombian government, or the entry of this country into the Organization of the Treaty of the North Atlantic (NATO).
