In the framework of the tour of the president of Cuba by the Asian nation, both countries agreed on the signing of a new bilateral trade agreement.

Cuba and Vietnam ratified on Friday their willingness to foster economic relations and cooperation, following a meeting between the Cuban leader,Miguel Díaz-Canel and his Vietnamese counterpart,Nguyen Xuan Phuc .

The meeting took place in the framework of the official visit of Diaz-Canel to Vietnam , which will last three days.

In an atmosphere of cordiality, both leaders celebrated the signing of a new bilateral trade agreement. The two countries worked hard in recent months to finalize the document that will govern their economic, commercial and cooperation ties in the coming years.

Lately, trade exchanges in both directions were over 240 million dollars per year, but the intention is to double it in the short term and reaffirm Vietnam as the second most important partner of Cuba in Asia.

Prior to this meeting, Díaz-Canel was honored with the Order of Ho Chi Minh in recognition of his political merits and contributions to friendship between his country and Vietnam .
