Dominican chancellor meets with his Russian counterpart in Moscow

The Dominican Republic and Russia ratified their strategic relationship and indicated that they will work together in the United Nations Security Council.

The chancellor of the Dominican Republic, Miguel Vargas , met Monday with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov , in the capital of the Slavonic country (Moscow) with the intention of strengthening bilateral relations.

"This meeting demonstrates the importance and commitment of both countries to achieve common goals as the strategic partners we are, always in a framework of mutual respect," Vargas was quoted as saying by the Russian state agency Sputnik Nóvosti .

At the meeting they confirmed the strategic relationship and the continuation of the dialogue between the two countries for cultural and humanitarian cooperation , as well as the exploration of perspectives in economic development .

Vargas affirmed that his nation recognizes the political weight of Russia in the multilateral sphere and thanked his support so that the Dominican Republic has been elected a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations.

On this point the head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that bilateral collaboration will become increasingly narrow now within the framework of the United Nations.

"Our relations are developed at the level of political dialogue within the framework of interministerial contacts and at the level of institutions in the spheres of education, culture, humanitarian and tourism," he said.
