The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described as scandalous the suspension of the dialogue between the Government of Colombia and the guerrilla Army of National Liberation (ELN) and urges them to retake it.
"A call to the Government of Colombia to resume the path of peace, the first people interested in peace are Venezuelans because we are victims," said the head of state at the opening of the book fair in downtown Caracas.
The president indicated that the Colombian authorities are not focused on achieving peace, "but seek justification outside Colombia, Venezuela follows the order of the Colombian peace," he said.
He also repudiated that his Colombian counterpart, Ivan Duque, announced that he will not resume talks with the ELN, and assured that there is an increase in violence in his country.
"It is scandalous, the freezing of the peace negotiation tables with the ELN is scandalous, and Venezuela is still a victim of the Colombian war, this year we have had more than 15 incidents in Zulia (northwest), Táchira (northwest), Apure ( northwest), Amazonas (south), "he said.
Maduro regretted that in Colombia the war continues, despite the agreements signed in Havana with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, in which Venezuela and other member countries of the United Nations Organization served as guarantors.
During his speech the president repudiated the attack on the Venezuelan military by the ELN, which left three officials dead and 10 wounded on Sunday 4 in the state of Amazonas.
In this regard, he reported that he ordered the Ministry of Defense to reinforce the security and intelligence measures on the border with Colombia to capture any irregular group operating in the area.
