Moreno and Piñera discuss cooperation in energy mining and trade

The president ofEcuador , Lenin Moreno , analyzed today in Bogota with his Chilean counterpart, Sebastián Piñera, how to expand cooperation in the energy, mining and commercial sectors, informed the Ecuadorian Communications Secretariat.

In a communiqué, the government entity specified that among the issues discussed in the Colombian capital were the Andean electricity interconnection and the Llurimagua-Codelco mining project , as well as investment treaties and air connectivity.

The meeting took place as a result of the participation of both presidents in the inauguration ceremony of the new Colombian president, Iván Duque, held in Bogotá.

According to the document, in the interview Moreno and Piñera reviewed the status of the Andean Electrical Interconnection System (Sinea) that will allowEcuador toexport energy to Chile in the future, a task for which joint tasks must be implemented.

The statement said that Chilean mining minister Baldo Prokurica plans to visitEcuadorin September in order to monitor the progress of the works that are being carried out in the mining project, located in the Andean region of Imbabura.

Regarding the air connection, the presence in Ecuadorof Chilean airlines such as Latam and Sky Airline will be promoted .

The first has shown interest in opening new schedules and non-stop flights between Quito and Santiago de Chile, while the second airline based in that country could start its low-cost flights toEcuadorafter the adoption of the open skies policy. promoted by the Ecuadorian Government last January.

The work team of both leaders advanced that the V meeting of the Bilateral Interministerial Council (CIB), chaired by the foreign ministers of the two countries, will be held in Santiago, Chile and will include the exchange of positive experiences in child development policies.

The document, however, does not specify the date on which the council will meet.

This working session between both Heads of State is part of the approaches that Ecuador makeswith several countries to promote investment treaties that contribute to exports, investment attraction and job creation, within the new strategy of international relations and trade policy .

After the appointment, both attended the inauguration ceremony of Duque as the new president of Colombia and the official greeting of the delegations present, which took place at the Casa de Nariño.
