The US and China must seek a solution to their conflicts through talks conducted on the basis of the principles of equality and mutual benefit, said Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
"The US and China trade relations have a mutually beneficial character, both parties must find a suitable solution through a dialogue under conditions of equality and mutual benefit," he said, quoted on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the trade negotiations between his country and China are going well and that the two sides are approaching an agreement.
The president also reiterated that he will discuss the issue when he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the G20 summit in Argentina at the end of November.
China and the US are engaged in a trade war triggered by Trump's announcement in June that tariffs of 25% to 50 billion dollars would be applied to Chinese goods, in an attempt to fix the trade deficit between the two countries.
Since then, the two countries have imposed several rounds of tariffs, taxing billions of dollars of each other's assets.
