Staffan de Mistura the UN special envoy for Syria warned today of the danger that the current situation in Syria will get out of control.
Recent events in Syria carry more than ever before the risk of such a possibility De Mistura told the Security Council.
"The council can not allow the situation to escalate without control in Syria or on any front" he said.
At one point in his speech De Mistura said he had to slow down his speech because he was talking about an important issue of international security not only Syrian or regional.
"There is a pressing need for this council to find a way to approach the situation with unity and purpose" the envoy added.
The Security Council held an emergency session on the situation in Syria particularly after reports of the use of chemical weapons over the weekend in the rebel enclave of Douma near the capital Damascus.
